Day 1:Christchurch, New Zealand / Franz Josef - Board the world-famous TranzAlpine train for a journey through the Southern Alps. Disembark and travel to Hokitika for a greenstone (jade) jewelry demonstration. Then, on through the gold-mining town of Ross before arriving at Franz Josef. This afternoon, listen to the informative commentary from a local expert glacier guide as he walks you to your viewing area at mighty Franz Josef Glacier. Later, enjoy a Welcome Drink and Dinner with your fellow passengers. (D)
Day 2:Franz Josef / Queenstown - There is time for an optional scenic flight over the glacier (weather permitting) or to take a dip in one of the local hot pools. Then travel over Haast Pass and along the shores of Lakes Wanaka and Hawea. Stop to explore the gold-mining town of Arrowtown, then on to Queenstown. Following an orientation tour, the evening
is at leisure to explore and enjoy the city. (B)
Day 4:Queenstown at Leisure - Queenstown, with a picturesque setting on Lake Wakatipu, is perfect for adventurers and leisureseekers alike. On your free day, you can browse in the shops, enjoy the extraordinary surroundings, join an optional jet boat ride or play a round of golf. You might want to relax by the lake or in a café. Tonight, ride the Skyline Gondola, the steepest in the Southern Hemisphere, to Bob’s Peak for dinner, and admire the stunning views over Queenstown. (B,D)
Day 7:Queenstown / Milford Sound - Travel south along the shores of Lake Wakatipu to Te Anau and on into Fiordland National Park. There is time to see the Mirror Lakes, Pop’s Lookout and the Chasm before arriving at Milford Sound for an overnight cruise. (B,D)
Day 11:Milford Sound / Stewart Island - Enjoy the scenery and the many early morning activities available. Then re-board the coach and continue south to Invercargill. At Bluff, board a ferry for the cruise to Stewart Island. (B)
Day 16:Stewart Island - Enjoy a Village and Bays tour before a lunch cruise on Paterson Inlet. Stop at Ulva Island and spend time watching for the native wildlife. It is predator-free and
a must for viewing native birds. Back at the hotel tonight, you may want to try spotting kiwis in the nearby bush. (B,L)
